Belgian hockey had just adopted a new identity, and the Wallonia-Brussels federation had to inherit it rather than rebuild it. The film is the first place that adaptation really showed: take the national system, carry it to the Wallonia case, and make it hold over footage already shot. Crolle Agency ran the video production, the studio took the graphic and animated side.
A companion film between live footage and motion design
For Hockey Wallonie Bruxelles, vdb creation handled the motion design titling of the film: animated title cards, federation data-visualization and editing work on the live footage (drone, interviews), in collaboration with Crolle, the video agency in charge of production. A federation film has to hold two registers at once. There is the footage, the pitch, the faces, everything the drone and the interviews bring back. And there are the figures, the clubs, the development priorities, which cannot be filmed. Motion design bridges the two. The data arrives as animated typography, the priorities land as title cards, and the edit alternates between both registers so the information comes across without feeling like a report.
-
Discovery
We frame what the film has to say, to whom, and into which brand world it fits. If guidelines already exist, they become our starting point rather than a constraint to work around.
-
Direction
We list the boards and set the art direction as slides. You know what the film will contain and what it will look like before a single frame moves.
-
Framing
Still boards, approved before any animation. This is not set in stone: if the project calls for it, or if you would rather go straight to animation, we skip it. But when we keep it, it saves animating the same sequence three times over.
-
Production and delivery
The animation itself, with regular check-ins to avoid nasty surprises. For sound, voice and music we work with partners whose actual craft it is, rather than pretending in house.
